Q: I have a writing/editing/proofreading project I need help with. What now?
A: The first stage in any work-for-hire situation is about establishing the requirements for the project. Over the years, I have worked with many clients who had little more than an idea of what they wanted turned into an e-book or even a full-length book.
In four phases, we will work on your project to figure out what exactly you want to see in your final product and how best we can marry your expectations to a product that will serve the purpose for which it is designed.
Q: How often can I expect to hear from you about my project?
A: Unless otherwise negotiated, you will hear from me at least once every week by email and there will be a phone call scheduled for each project phase.
Q: What is your standard response time to e-mails?
A: My standard response time is within 24 hours, however, I am frequently at my computer during the day and have generally good access to my e-mail account. You may well hear from me within a few hours. If you contact my by phone, you will usually hear back from me within 48 hours.
Q: When can I expect the delivery of the final draft?
A: The schedule for each project will be determined during phase one. Certainly, we will take into consideration your requirements. If you have a deadline for the project, you are encouraged to let us know well in advance. We will determine the delivery date in the project schedule and any revisions to the final delivery date will be made well in advance, after the delivery of the first project draft.
Q: What forms of payment do you accept and what are the terms for payment?
A: Via Paypal, I can accept major credit and debt cards. I also accept certified checks, money orders, and bank drafts with prior notification. Standard payment terms are 25% upfront, 25% upon delivery of the first draft, and 50% due within 15 days of final delivery. When possible, however, escrow accounts are preferred. When an escrow is used, the account must be full funded before the commencement of the project.
The price for each individual project will be negotiated prior to the beginning of phase one and will be based on an assessment of the requirements of each individual project.
Q: What about copyright ownership?
A: As per standard work for hire agreements, you own the copyright once the project is paid for. A contract establishing ownership and a non-disclosure agreement will also be in place to protect your interests.
Q: What if I have special delivery requirements?
A: I can deliver files in MS Word format and .pdf depending on your requirements. If you need delivery in an alternative form, let me know and I will do what I can to facilitate. If you need web design or additional layout work to complete your project, I am happy to recommend web designers and graphic designers who can assist you.
Q: What if I have to cancel a project?
A: Cancellations prior to completion of phase one will receive a full refund. Once phase two is initiated, a 75% refund will be offered and you will receive copies of all work completed to date for your records.
Q: What should I do if I still have a question?
A: Please go ahead and e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org and I will do my best to answer you.
